Lofty Matambo has opened up about why several of his past relationships have not worked out, revealing that his decision to keep his love life off social media has often led to breakups.
Speaking during an interview, the NTV Swahili news presenter explained that some of the women he dated expected him to post them online as a sign of commitment. However, he maintained that he does not believe in displaying his romantic relationships on social media.
"I have been left by several women simply because I refused to post them on social media," Lofty said. He added that many would question him directly, asking, "Why don't you post me?" because they believed that being featured on his platforms would prove he was serious about them.
Lofty stated that for him, love is not about public validation but about how partners treat each other in real life. "If I met you offline and I show you love in real life, then that should be enough," he said. He emphasized that the quality of the relationship matters more to him than online appearances.
The journalist also pointed out that anyone scrolling through his social media pages would not easily tell who he has dated before. He explained that this is intentional, as he prefers to separate his private life from his public career.
Lofty further addressed the frequent speculation surrounding his close working relationship with Fridah Mwaka. The two, who co-anchor on NTV, have often sparked dating rumours due to their on-screen chemistry. However, Lofty clarified that their relationship is strictly professional and built on friendship.
He added that whenever he is in a serious relationship, he ensures transparency and introduces his partner appropriately to avoid misunderstandings.
His remarks have since sparked conversations online, with many weighing in on whether posting a partner on social media should be considered proof of commitment in modern relationships.
